Welcome to My Personal Space!

In this page you will find a little bit about my past, my hobbies, my likes and dislikes, and an idea about what I like to do when I am not doing physics. If I can think of anything else that I would like to share with everybody, I will. I also hope to add more to the galleries as I get a chance to capture more of nature's beauty.

  • Retrospect

  • I was born and brought up in Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta), the capital of the state of West Bengal, located in eastern India. Spread along the banks of the River Hoogly, it is the fourth largest city in India, and best known for its rich literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage. I consider myself extremely lucky to have spent the first 21 years of my life in this vibrant city.

I did my schooling (1st grade through 12th grade) at Jadavpur Vidyapith, one of the premier schools in Kolkata. After graduating from high school in 1998, I joined St. Xavier's College, a prestigious college affiliated under Calcutta University, for a 3-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program, majoring in Physics.

Upon successful completion of B.Sc. with Physics Honors in 2001, I moved to the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) for a 2-year Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in Physics. During this period, apart from strengthening my problem solving skills, I also developed my interest in cosmology and astrophysics.

I graduated from IITK in 2003 and subsequently joined the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kansas as a graduate student. From the Fall of 2004, I started working with Prof. Hume Feldman on velocity fields. In 2006, I moved to the University of California, Irvine to continue with my Ph.D. program.

I was a graduate student and a member of the Center for Cosmology at the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the University of California, Irvine from Fall 2006 to Spring 2009, where I was involved in several research projects in the area of cosmology and astrophysics. Please refer to my research page if you are interested in further details.

I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Physics in the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from Fall 2009 to Summer 2011; working with Prof. Dragan Huterer. I was also a member of the Michigan Center for Theoretical Physics (MCTP). [Photo Credit: Lars Jensen]

In August 2011, I decided to change my career path from Physics to Quantitative Finance and joined the Master of Science in Computational Finance (MSCF) program at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business. I graduated in December 2012.

  • The Present

  • I am currently working at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. as a Vice President in the Fixed Income Strategy division.

  • Random Stuff

  • When I am not working, I like to play ping pong,  listen to music, dance, chat with my friends, watch movies, and read news. I love to travel and try different cuisines. I am also passionate about photography (but I guess there is a long way to go before I will be any good).

Being so far away from home, I miss my parents, my 26-year old brother (who is currently doing his Ph.D. at IISER, Pune, India), and other close relatives and friends; and definitely love to visit India (and obviously Kolkata) whenever possible.
